The Lord has a heart for the orphan. Consider the following, which are just a few verses on point (verses in NLT, unless otherwise stated):

“For the LORD your God is God of gods and Lord of lords, the great God, mighty and awesome, who shows no partiality and accepts no bribes. He defends the cause of the fatherless and the widow, and loves the alien, giving him food and clothing. He shows love to the foreigners living among you and gives them food and clothing. And you are to love those who are aliens for you yourselves were aliens in Egypt.” Deuteronomy 10:17-19 (NIV).
“But you do not see the trouble and grief they cause. You take note of it and punish them. The helpless put their trust in you. You are the defender of orphans LORD, you know the hopes of the helpless. Surely you will listen to their cries and comfort them. You will bring justice to the orphans and oppressed, so people can no longer terrify them.”
Psalm 10:14, 17-18.
“A father to the fatherless, a defender of widows, is God in his holy dwelling. God sets the lonely in families”
Psalm 68:5-6a (NIV).“Defend the cause of the weak and fatherless; maintain the rights of the poor and oppressed. Rescue the weak and needy; deliver them from the hand of the wicked.”
Psalm 82:3-4 (NIV).
“Wash yourselves and be clean! Let me no longer see your evil deeds. Give up your wicked ways. Learn to do good. Seek justice. Help the oppressed. Defend the orphan. Fight for the rights of widows.”
Isaiah 1:16-17.
“Pure and lasting religion in the sight of our God our Father means that we must care for orphans and widows in their troubles, and refuse to let the world corrupt us.”
James 1:27.
Please pray for the defense, protection and safekeeping of the world’s orphans. Pray that the Lord will make their burden yours; that the world that seems so enormous may become so small that you feel the pain of these children, such that you pray for them with your whole heart. Here is a tip about where to start. Go to your closet and pick out a garment at random. Look at the tag.Go to the map and find the country whose workers made that garment. Then pray for the orphans of that country, for they suffer even as we speak. Choose a different garment each week.
