Rob Boyer built a successful business. In the prime of his money-making life, Rob could “have it all.” However, Rob has realized the truth of Jim Eliot’s words: “He is no fool who gives what he cannot keep to gain what he cannot lose.” For a building investment of $25,000, and an ongoing support investment of $2,400/month, Rob is partnering with C3 Missions to care for 60 orphans in the Boyer House of Hope.
In January 2007, Rob Boyer took a C3 vision trip to Haiti to see, first hand, the C3 model in action. A “cluster” ideal for C3’s model was set up in the impoverished village of Casa Major: local church (thriving), school, micro-enterprise, and a roughly 2 acre parcel of vacant land (ready for two children’s homes). As the sun began to set, local villagers - mostly children and many orphaned - flocked to the open field when they saw us. We were there to show our guests how a “cluster” develops, and to pray for the orphans who would one day thrive in C3 homes at this site. Bob and Janie Hodgdon [Link] were there, too. As we joined hands in a circle to pray, little children (none of whom spoke English) took our hands and joined in the circle. It was absolutely incredible! These children just wanted to touch us, to feel a hug, to feel loved. And we gave them all of the love that we could in a short time. Then it was time to go.
As our bus left, the successful business ventures didn’t pack the same punch for Rob. “Success” didn’t take away the pit in Rob’s stomach when he thought about the small child whose face Rob cannot, will not, and does not want to forget. “He is no fool who gives what he cannot keep to gain what he cannot lose.” Rob decided to take action.
Through C3, Rob committed to build and fund the Boyer House of Hope at Casa Major. $25,000 construction. $2,400 per month for support. And this will provide for the complete care for 60 children! Not one dime of the committed funds went/will go to C3 overhead - all of it goes to support the 60 children at the home. With Bob and Janie Hodgdon’s duplicate commitment, 120 orphaned children will find life at Casa Major! That is an eternal investment with an unbelievable return.
The Boyer House of Hope is now complete, and full of the life, energy and hope of 60 little children playing. 60 children going to school. 60 children going to church.
This is not an “institutional orphanage.” Small groups of these children have become family, and now have mommies caring for them. If you’d visit them, you’d quickly realize that transformation in their lives, and the transformation these children are bringing about in their village. It is amazing.
C3 has individuals, families, churches, and companies stepping-up, like Rob Boyer, to take drastic action for a drastic need. And the blessings they receive far exceed the currency spent. If you would like to partner with C3 to build or support a home - whether entirely or through leveraged giving (matched funds) - please contact us.
